OUR OPERATION |
Since 1972, Diamond Hitch Outfitters have helped fishermen, hunters and vacationers experience the wonders of southwestern Montana . As outfitters we provide the horses, boats, tents campsites, equipment, expertise and experience necessary to explore the backcountry. We are guides, wranglers, chauffeurs, cooks, and dishwashers—but mostly we are friends helping our guests enjoy this spectacular country.
Diamond Hitch Outfitters are based in Dillon , Montana , 65 miles south of Butte and 140 miles north of Idaho Falls , on Interstate 15. Our cabin base camp is located just off the Pioneer Scenic Byway between Wise River and Polaris. Pack trips take place in the proposed wilderness areas of the East and West Pioneers of the Beaverhead National Forest . Our Montana Horseback riding and Montana Elk hunting takes place on the Beaverhead Forest , Bannack State Park , BLM, and Montana State Lands .
Our Montana Flyfishing river trips take place on two of Montana ’s premier trout rivers: the Big Hole and the Beaverhead. Our Scenic Floats combine scenery, history, and fun for your family or group.
Southwestern Montana offers the state’s premiere elk hunting. We offer pack in full-service, semi guided, drop camps and day hunts in the Pioneer mountains and Blacktail Range .
We invite you to join us; we love sharing this amazing country and its activities. We’ve got the horses, the boats, and the staff to make your Montana experience one you’ll treasure forever.
Diamond Hitch Outfitters are not in the lodging business, we concentrate on the outfitting, we do work with area lodges, motels and cabin rental facilities. Everything from rustic log cabins , to the finest in deluxe fishing lodges. Let us know your tastes and we will help arrange your stay.

OUR TEAM |
Diamond Hitch Outfitters is a family operation. Bob McNeill started outfitting in 1972 when he purchased the Elkhorn Hot Springs Resort near Dillon Montana. A lifelong love of the outdoors (hunting, fishing, and horses) led Bob into the outfitting business. To better concentrate on the outfitting, the resort was later sold.
Bob’s son, Chris, has guided and outfitted since 1974. He and wife, Lenny, have taken the reins of the business. Their vast experience in helping people enjoy the outdoors ensure Diamond Hitch guests a safe, friendly and fun experience.
During the off-season, Chris, Lenny and daughter, Dori, head for the Steamboat Ski Resort. Chris is the head coach for the Billy Kidd Performance Center and Lenny is the supervisor for the Kids ski school. If you’re skiing Steamboat, look them up at the Ski School .
